Toxins are a real concern in our society. We can get them in the tap water, they’re in the produce we eat, they’re in the air we breathe, and we ingest them on a regular basis. What this all equates to is a liver that can’t do its job properly, which means processing toxins and fat in an efficient way. The problem is bigger than this, however. Toxins enter the bloodstream, the respiratory system and exit your skin. You can be sick beyond belief from toxins and not even realize it. However, there are some things that can encourage the liver to recover from this and productively clean out the body.
Garlic can be added to just about anything, and a small amount can do your liver wonders. It helps to encourage enzyme production in the liver to rid the body of toxins. In addition, selenium and allicin, which garlic has, help to clean out the liver as well. Allicin helps to protect the body from foreign bodies, which helps to keep the immune system strong. Selenium helps to naturally detoxify the body.
Lemons are wonderfully cleansing. Lemons, like other citrus fruits, have high amounts of Vitamin C, which is an antioxidant. Lemons help the liver to create enzymes as well. Lemons also have natural electrolytes that don’t negatively impact the body in the same way sodium can. Lemons also help to neutralize toxins and get rid of waste. Drinking lemon with water in the morning before ingesting anything else helps to flush out toxins and stimulate the liver.
There are times when people crave onions. Onions naturally detox the body. Onions are excellent at cleaning out the blood, but these cravings may be a way of your liver saying, “Hey, help me out.” Onions are abundant in fiber, potassium, flavonoids, phytonutrients and allicin. All of these nutrients help the body’s immune system and rid the body of harmful toxins.
Leafy greens help to protect the liver from a wide variety of toxins. For example, leafy greens are rich in chlorophylls, which can neutralize chemicals, pesticides and heavy metals in the body. Foods like spinach, arugula and mustard greens save your liver the aggravation of trying to filter these harmful toxins from the body. These natural foods also encourage the bile production, which are helpful in removing waste from the bloodstream.
What it all boils down to is that you want to incorporate foods into your diet that will promote blood cleansing and liver enzyme production. Remember to drink an adequate amount of water to help filter out toxins, and cut down on eating harmful foods that are filled with chemicals or pesticides. Your liver can only do so much before it will give out. Help it out by eating right.
